Summary

In a delightful follow-up to Written in the Stars, Alexandria Bellefleur delivers another #ownvoices queer rom-com about a hopeless romantic who vows to show his childhood crush that romance isn’t dead by recreating iconic dates from his favorite films。。。

Brendon Lowell loves love。 It’s why he created a dating app to help people find their one true pairing and why he’s convinced “the one” is out there, even if he hasn’t met her yet。 Or。。。 has he? When his sister's best friend turns up in Seattle unexpectedly, Brendon jumps at the chance to hang out with her。 He’s crushed on Annie since they were kids, and the stars have finally aligned, putting them in the same city at the same time。

Annie booked a spur-of-the-moment trip to Seattle to spend time with friends before moving across the globe。 She’s not looking for love, especially with her best friend’s brother。 Annie remembers Brendon as a sweet, dorky kid。 Except, the 6-foot-4 man who shows up at her door is a certified Hot Nerd and Annie。。。 wants him? Oh yes。

Getting involved would be a terrible idea—her stay is temporary and he wants forever—but when Brendon learns Annie has given up on dating, he’s determined to prove that romance is real。 Taking cues from his favorite rom-coms, Brendon plans to woo her with elaborate dates straight out of Nora Ephron’s playbook。 The clock is ticking on Annie’s time in Seattle, and Brendon’s starting to realize romance isn’t just flowers and chocolate。 But maybe real love doesn’t need to be as perfect as the movies。。。 as long as you think your partner hung the moon。

Hang the Moon was just as lovable, relatable, and sexy as the first。 I also listened to this one on audio, and um, *blush。*Hang the Moon was sweet and had me feeling all kinds of emotions。 I may have shed a tear or two。 I can’t wait to read about Margot’s story next year! (Plus, I kind of love Seattle now?)Thank you to Net Galley, Avon, and Alexandria Bellefleur for this advanced review copy! 。。。more

3。5 stars-- I liked the writing style and the characters, but I wish Darcy and Brendon would have let Annie make her own decisions rather than trying to force her into staying。

Delightful and extraordinarily real。 I love these characters so much, and I’m so happy to see more of my favorites from Written in the Stars。 I cannot wait for the third installment of this universe。

Was delightful and very fluffy。 It was a bit too sweet and too easy for the romance, but I enjoyed Annie and Brendon together。 The little epilogue at the end was fantastic。 Can't wait for Margot's book! HANG THE MOON stars Annie, who's visiting Seattle on a surprise trip to see her best friend before moving to London, and Brendon, her friend's brother。I remember really enjoying WRITTEN IN THE STARS, the first romance in this series, and was excited to get to know Annie more。 I'm into how this author makes me feel like I'm in a place, and describes characters' feelings in such detail。So I was surprised when it took me weeks to read HANG THE MOON (usually, a contemporary romance, we're looking at HANG THE MOON stars Annie, who's visiting Seattle on a surprise trip to see her best friend before moving to London, and Brendon, her friend's brother。I remember really enjoying WRITTEN IN THE STARS, the first romance in this series, and was excited to get to know Annie more。 I'm into how this author makes me feel like I'm in a place, and describes characters' feelings in such detail。So I was surprised when it took me weeks to read HANG THE MOON (usually, a contemporary romance, we're looking at 1-3 days, max。 a week if it's a busy one IRL)。 As the synopsis describes, Annie is just in town for a few weeks but Brendon challenges himself to prove that romance is real in the time they've got together。(dumping the next few grafs behind the spoiler tag as I discuss their main conflict) (view spoiler)[ I think what didn't work for me is the instalove, coupled with a main character who hasn't been in a relationship before (but has deep romantic ideals) yet is urging a cross-country move。 I really felt for Annie, in not wanting to make such a big decision after just a few weeks of getting to know a new place and beginning a new relationship。 It didn't really feel like Brendon got that, nor did it feel like he understood her reticence to jump in, feet first。 Not to be too much of a realist here, but I think it's incredibly easy to see romantic relationships with rose-colored glasses if you've never been in one。 (I'm also someone who fairly easily falls for people, then needs to take a step back and suss out what's hormones/immediate attraction and what's a genuine connection, so yeah -- I super get Annie not being ready to uproot her life after two weeks。)It's possible I missed it, but I don't remember Brendon ever offering to move to London WITH Annie to pursue their relationship。 While I understand he's got a company in Seattle, remote work often is a real possibility these days -- or he could at least pursue whether that'd be possible in his situation。 Instead it felt like there was an expectation for Annie to come to Seattle, not for Brendon to make any changes in his plans for her。 I'd also have appreciated if there were real discussion as to how they'd manage it if she moved to Seattle, based her circle on people who were all his friends too, then they broke up。 Where does that leave them, her especially? (hide spoiler)]Suffice it to say, I didn't love this one like I wanted to。 But, I'm still a fan of the author, and have high hopes for the third in the series (Margot's book!)。Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for a free e-arc of this title for review。 。。。more

This is a fun cozy romance book, but it's not quite the book for me。 I adored Bellefleur's first novel, Written In The Stars, which was about two women; I'm a hard six on the ol' Kinsey scale, so I knew my experience with Hang The Moon would be different, but I was hoping for more in-depth engagement with queer themes, especially given the book is labeled a "queer rom com" on the back cover。 TO BE QUITE CLEAR: bi erasure is a real thing and I'm noooot saying that Annie (the bi protagonist) isn't This is a fun cozy romance book, but it's not quite the book for me。 I adored Bellefleur's first novel, Written In The Stars, which was about two women; I'm a hard six on the ol' Kinsey scale, so I knew my experience with Hang The Moon would be different, but I was hoping for more in-depth engagement with queer themes, especially given the book is labeled a "queer rom com" on the back cover。 TO BE QUITE CLEAR: bi erasure is a real thing and I'm noooot saying that Annie (the bi protagonist) isn't queer。 She's bi and that means she's 100% in the LGBTQ community! I just came to the book wanting to learn about how that impacts her life - how being bi impacts her feelings about (for instance) her dating history and her life goals, both subjects that are extremely important in the plot。 The absence of discussion or introspection on those points felt strange to me。 In any event, that's not to say this isn't a pretty fun romance novel, but it falls short of Written In The Stars in a few ways for me。 The conceit isn't quite as strong; Annie and Brendon's immediate unspoken attraction doesn't have any of the conflict or drama of Elle and Darcy's disastrous first date and hasty conspiracy of deception。 And the resolution, for me, was anti-climactic next to Written To The Stars。 In WITS, (view spoiler)[Darcy is inexcusably cruel to Elle and then has to deal with the fear that she's permanently damaged the relationship; when she apologizes to Elle, she does so with humility, generosity and insight she wasn't capable of before。 Likewise, when Elle walks out on Darcy and then ultimately forgives her she shows that she's grown stronger and braver, but hasn't lost her kindness in the process。 It pays off both character's arcs, and their sadness before the reconcile is heartbreaking (hide spoiler)]。 In Hang The Moon, (view spoiler)[Annie decides she's moving too fast, and asks for time to think before she commits to Brendon。 Brendon agrees。 She thinks about it for three weeks, then commits to him。 The stakes are pretty dang low。 (hide spoiler)]If you're looking for a cozy, low stakes read, this is a good fit, and hey, if you just NEED more Darcy and Elle, there's a lot of them in this, which is great! But as a romance novel it doesn't quite rise to the heights of Bellefleur's last novel, and if you're here for the LGBTQ content it's good to know that it's sparse and incidental。 。。。more

Alexandria Bellefluer is quickly climbing the ranks of my favorite romance authors。 This novel follows Darcy's brother, Brendan。 We were introduced to him in the first book, but he played a supporting role。 Ever the optimist, and also the founder of a popular dating app, Brendan is a romantic at heart。 When Darcy's best friend, and his childhood crush, Annie, comes into town, Brendan decides to show her around Seattle to show her romance isn't dead。 However, he doesn't expect to get feelings for Alexandria Bellefluer is quickly climbing the ranks of my favorite romance authors。 This novel follows Darcy's brother, Brendan。 We were introduced to him in the first book, but he played a supporting role。 Ever the optimist, and also the founder of a popular dating app, Brendan is a romantic at heart。 When Darcy's best friend, and his childhood crush, Annie, comes into town, Brendan decides to show her around Seattle to show her romance isn't dead。 However, he doesn't expect to get feelings for her。 What follows is a rom-com that will lift your spirits。 I'm a sucker for a happy, sappy romance novel。 However, I want some realism sprinkled in。 This book did just that。 Annie has to battle with a career she doesn't love in a place she doesn't love, but isn't ready to just throw away her whole life for something that could be a mistake。 This felt very real to me。 Most people have faced a decision like this, that is a huge risk and completely life changing, but ultimately terrifying。 I laughed out loud multiple times while listening to this audiobook。 I never thought peeing in a cup could be so funny, but I was trying to hold back raucous laughter while at work listening。 The interactions between Brendan and Annie are hysterical of course, but honestly every character interaction had humor in it。 Darcy and Annie's interactions were equally hilarious。 The book delivered on steaminess, happiness, a touch of sadness, and ultimately left me with a smile on my face, which is all I ask of a good romance novel。 I would recommend this book to anyone needing a happy pick-me-up。 TW: parental abandonment, sexually explicit scenes 。。。more

Gosh, everyone is really liking this book。 Unpopular opinion alert! Brendan, Darcy's brother, is a hopeless romantic trying to woo Darcy's best friend Annie, who manages to be both totally annoying and a completely flat character。 Brendan is fine, a little too much of a SNAG (Sensitive New-Age Guy) for my tastes, but he could really do so much better。 The story dragged, and then the HEA felt rushed。 I enjoyed the other characters in the story more, and I will probably go ahead and read Margot's Gosh, everyone is really liking this book。 Unpopular opinion alert! Delightfully sweet rom-com! It would work well as a stand-alone, but I loved catching up with Darcy and Elle from Written in the Stars。 I really liked the Nora Ephron tribute。 I also love when the setting plays a role in the story, rather than being in some generic city。 This made me remember how much fun I had in Seattle and has me considering another trip!

Fluffy romcom。 I liked that Darcy and Elle were in the book, so I felt like I was more invested in the main characters…Annie, Darcy’s best friend, and Brendon, Darcy’s brother。 The point Brendon was trying to prove, that romance isn’t dead, kind of gets overshadowed by Annie struggling with her feelings on whether or not to take the job in London。 I kind of wanted more of the recreating of magical movie moments to woo her, but the story kind of strayed from that。 I could also take issue with the Fluffy romcom。 I liked that Darcy and Elle were in the book, so I felt like I was more invested in the main characters…Annie, Darcy’s best friend, and Brendon, Darcy’s brother。 The point Brendon was trying to prove, that romance isn’t dead, kind of gets overshadowed by Annie struggling with her feelings on whether or not to take the job in London。 I kind of wanted more of the recreating of magical movie moments to woo her, but the story kind of strayed from that。 I could also take issue with the job vs a man situation, it I won’t because she didn’t like her job anyway。 。。。more

Best friends brother, there's only one bed, friends to lovers/second chance, mutual pining, etc。 If you love rom-coms this book is for you。 But one of my favorite things about this book was how the romance wrapped up。 Annie is really unsure of where she sees her future heading and love definitely does not fix all in here。 She does a lot of her own person growth outside of her relationship with Brendon which I loved seeing。Overall this romance had everything I was looking for。 It's swoony and adorable with a sexy edge (Brendon might seem sweat but he can definitely throw down with the dirty talk!)。 There's amazing banter, loads of chemistry between the main characters, and wonderful nods to rom-coms we all know and love。 I'm already SO excited for Margot's story next year!! 。。。more
